Description: Bust of the bodhisattva Maitreya who will appear on earth in the future, achieve complete enlightenment, and teach the pure dharma. According to scriptures, Maitreya will be a successor to the present Buddha, Gautama Buddha (also known as Sakyamuni Buddha). The prophecy of the arrival of Maitreya refers to a time in the future when the dharma will have been forgotten by most on the terrestrial world. This example wears a high conical crown with a small, seated buddha in relief at front, ear lobes weighed down by heavy earrings and chest ornamented with a wide necklace. Heavily lidded eyes, finely formed, slender nose and thin lips accentuate the serene face. Some surface weathering, but intact and quite lovely. Custom base.
Provenance: Collection of Miriam and Dr. Eugene Halpert, Great Neck, NY. Acquired from Frank Caro Co., NYC, May 25th, 1978.
Shipping Fee:
National: $72.00
International: $195.00 (This is approximate and for Postal Service. Prices may vary, especially for private carriers such as: FEDEX, UPS and BAX).
