Description: Handle carved with anthropomorphic head having finely textured hair, one eye inlaid with mother-of-pearl, other inlay lost, chin incised with intricate pattern and lips with concentric lined detail. The faceted staff with a relief “tiki” figure, the tongue extended along the body to the feet, and surface of the staff with curvilinear and resonating patterns. Warm brown patina. Bright red-orange pigment in the eyes, where once held inlay, and within rectangular loss on staff; nose abraded, age crack in neck, surface wear.
Provenance: NYC collection, from a Connecticut estate.
