Description: Large blackware pottery head vessel depicting Choc the ancient rain god, having a large angular nose, expressive half open and recessed eyes, incised wrinkled cheeks, open mouth with a large protruding tongue, and wearing large openwork ear ornaments. Overall scattered surface deposits. Ear ornaments, nose and tongue reattached, chip on the top edge of his left ear. Tiny probe hole in the rear right shoulder. A rare type.
Provenance: Private FL. collection. Ex. Barry Kernerman, Toronto, ex. Samuel Dubiner collection, Tel Aviv, Israel, acquired 1960s.
