Description: Large silver vessel highly decorated on all sides and bottom depicting Nayalam, emperor also called the navigator as he is depicted many times on reed boats. Wide central band on the exterior of the corseted vessel with four standing Nayalam deities, wearing elaborate headdresses, flanked with zoomorphic figures. Base is decorated with a single central figure surrounded with an exterior band of semiabstract figures. Intact, exc. cond. A very rare and beautiful example.
Provenance: Ex. Spendors of the World Gallery. Ex. Ian Arundel collection, Santa Monica, CA., acquired 1950s-1960s by decent to son, Colin Arundel.
