Description: |
Natural cream-white color, hollow terracotta head of a male, having an incised facial decoration composed of a stylized human figure with outstretched arms on his chin surrounded by a geometric pattern, open mouth and perforated nostrils. An opening in the back of his head with small perforations on both sides of the opening and two openings on the top of his head surrounded by a border of small perforations. Both ears missing and a chip off the side of his nose, loss to the interior of his left eye, otherwise intact. Custom mount. Together with a molded grayware pottery head off a full figure having well detailed face accentuated by the raised left side of the mouth and cheek, indicative of stroke or Bell’s palsy. Bears large, sensitive eyes, exaggerated, hooked nose and a beautifully fashioned ear with multiple drill marks, other ear gone. The hairdo is striated on half of the head, smooth on the other with a hairlock at left rear. Minor chip behind right ear, else intact. A very expressive face, very finely executed. Custom pedestal base. |
