Description: |
Deep chocolate ware pottery bottle having a large stirrup type spout. Vessel in the form of a large conch shell on one side, with the opposite decorated the three wide bands of rows of spines. A classic example of the surface modeling, characteristic of Cupisnique pottery. Some remaining traces of cinnabar in the grooves. Cupisnique was a distinct culture from Chavín, but with both sharing the shamanistic ideology of the Initial Period. Some minor rim roughness on spout, and a few of the spines have minor tip chips, otherwise intact, exc. cond. A beautiful example. |
