Description: Fine female figure from the Egba tribe, probably by the carver Makinde, she is standing on thin base, wearing a skirt, holding broad thick arms at sides, with pointed breasts, and having an elaborate coiffure in a tall slender crest and narrow plait behind neck. She is also decorated with strings of beads around neck and waist, cowry shells suspended from fist, and she wears a thick wide tunic adorned with layers of cowry shells, many of which are lost. An x is inscribed in base. Exc. cond.
