Description: |
Originally listed in catalog as Eskimo, we now believe this to be Mexican. Early carved wood face mask having bold facial features, large separately carved nose, perforated open eyes, wrinkled face, and hairy animal hide attached, surrounding mouth. Some remaining traces of black and white surface pigment. Perforated at the temples for attachment. Old repaired break vertically through the center, overall surface weathering. A strong early example. Custom base. |
