Description: |
Group of five different Mezcala figures, the largest, a standing figure, deep mottled gray-green hardstone figure, holding both hands to his stomach, simple stylized facial features. Scattered areas of encrustation, chip on jawline, otherwise intact. Custom bronze base. Together with two additional standing figures, deep gray-green and medium speckled gray and black stone, both with scattered areas of encrustation. Intact. Custom bronze bases. A tiny seated mottled green standing figure, perforated through the neck for suspension. Scattered encrustation. Intact. Finally, a speckled bluish-gray hardstone reclining figure, perforated along the base edge for suspension. Intact. Together with a framed drawing of the five pieces by Gilette Griffin, Professor Emeritus and ex. director of the Art Museum, Princeton University. |
