Description: |
Large carved greenstone, possibly steatite fragment of an Olmecoid bench figure. The massive head sits low on the muscular torso and the body has smooth rounded contours. A close fitting cap recalls Olmec monuments from the heartland of Veracruz. The triangular face has a pointed chin and almond shaped eyes, flat nose and fleshy lips. He wears plain earplugs in his ears. Such Olmecoid bench figures are generally found in Guatemala and date to the end of the Olmec era. A beautiful, high quality example. Custom base. |
