Description: Large redware pottery seated male figure holding a very large cylinder vase on his lap, with both hands. Vase is decorated with an elaborate incised linear and geometric decoration. Figure with elaborate incised decoration over his back and sides. Angular incised hairdo and wearing a fancy banded headdress with incised decorative details and a simple stylized face on the back of his head. Overall scattered areas of strong mineral deposits on the surface. Bowl repaired from approximately fifteen original pieces, the figure is repaired from approximately twelve original pieces with restoration over the break lines. A rare, large and impressive example.
Provenance: Private New England collection, acquired from Anthropos Gallery, CA. Ex. Bermudez Family collection, AZ., ex. R. Portillo collection acquired prior to the 1960’s. Acquired by Anthropos Gallery, CA. from A. Bermudez in 2017, with copy of provenance letter from A. Bermudez.
