Description: |
Fine grayware pottery fancy incensario depicting the god of lightning and rain, Cocijo, sitting on a throne, wearing the nasal buccal mask, large elaborate headdress with a central top glyphic plaque, side lappets, spool ear ornaments and large necklace with a central pendant. Bifurcated tongue, seated with legs crossed and holding his hands on his knees. The throne consists of a raised platform with a large and very fancy back consisting of interlocking geometric elements. Cylindrical urn incorporated behind the deity. Overall scattered cream color lime deposits with a few remaining traces of red-brown pigment highlights. Intact, excellent condition. This is an top quality, extremely fine example. |
