Description: |
Carved 3/4 round white marble horse head, possibly a large fragment originally from a sarcophagus, possibly depicting the legend of Achilles. Beautifully sculpted details, having very expressive features depicting a running steed, possibly once depicted pulling a chariot, raised mane, ears pinned back open toothy mouth and flaring nostrils. Overall scattered surface deposits. Overall exc. cond. Custom bronze covered base. |
