Description: Votives like this were left at shrines and temples of Hathor. They were offerings to the goddess thanking her for help with some matter involve living love or sexuality. They also were left with prayers to Hathor to help the supplicant with such a matter. They are often mistakenly called amulets, but they are votives and not amulets. Provenance: Collection of Dr. W. Benson Harer, Los Angeles, California. Ex. Anglo-American Bookstore, Cairo, 1945-1950. Imported to USA by Philip Mitry, circa 1951-2. Sold to Superior Gallery, Los Angeles in 1975. Purchased by Dr. Harer at Malter Auction III, February 26, 1978, lot 131. For the Hathor. Collection of Dr. W. Benson Harer, Los Angeles, California, acquired before 2004. For the Bes and the Pesesh-Kef Amulets.
