Description: Group of six different pottery oil lamps, including a lamp, of circular form with a loop handle, encrusted surface. some minor rim chips, otherwise intact. Crusader period. Purchased in Jerusalem. A lamp with impressed leafy branch decoration, ca. 7th century A.D. Surface wear, otherwise intact. Purchased in Jerusalem. A Byzantine/early Arabian lamp, animal head on rear handle, geometric decoration, eyes to front. Lamp is molded by handle is a hand-rendered head of an animal. Surface encrusted. Ca. 700 A.D. Purchased in Jerusalem. A lamp, Herodian Period (70 B.C. - 70 A.D.). Classic Herodian style lamp with flared spout. Encrusted surface. Purchased in Jerusalem. A lamp, from the Hasmonean period (225 - 140 B.C.). Greek important, purchased in Jerusalem. Spout chip reattached and has a couple of minor edge chips. Encrusted surface. Finally, a lamp with high loop handle and round projecting spout. Found in Anatolia. A few minor rim chips, encrusted surface.
Provenance: Paul S. Forbes collection, Maryland, acquired 1970's - 1980's.
