| Description: |
Carved gray stone spirit figure of flat form, the upraised head with inlaid tiny cowry shell eyes, prominent nose, and zoomorphic crest with serrated outline. Body of triangular openwork form, carved only on one side with reptilian scale pattern. According to the owner it would have hung along the interior wall of a Haus Tambaran.
Label on bottom reads, "Angoram East Sepik District; Application to remove from Territory on file. 09/07/70 As per Ord. 1963 By Hands of C.W. Stout/ Jerome Gould". Traces of white encrustation. Surface wear. Custom base. |
