Description: Two different natural buff color pottery vessels, including a box type vessel having a human figure lying in the interior, arms crossed over his chest, with traces of yellow pigment, interior of vessel with traces of red pigment. Exterior decorated with two rows of feather type elements. Standing on four short legs. Repaired from approximately eight original pieces with restoration over the break lines. Together with a larger bowl having tall tripod legs with applied decorative elements. Bowl has a scalloped flared rim. Three applied stylized skulls on the exterior of the bowl, with applied thumb-pressed decorated borders. Three alternating panels, with traces of a black and red painted decoration. Three legs reattached with restoration over the break lines, bowl repaired from a few large original pieces, with restoration over the break lines.
Provenance: Private Chicago collection. Square vessel is ex. Jerome Grunes, MD. 1970’s. Urn base is ex. Paul Haig, Rochester, MI. About 2000.
