Description: Large copper/bronze sheet metal mask depicting Nayalam, the Emperor of the Sican Empire. The dangler’s emitting from the eyes represent tears the ruler is shedding for his subjects. Two large plumes crown the mask each depicting a flying Nayalam. Applied button type eyes and having eleven danglers around the outer border. Overall remaining white facial pigment, on a blue-green surface patina. Mask was originally painted and later on covered in textiles to preserve it. Mask has been repaired from several original pieces, with restoration over the break lines. Custom metal display base. A larger than normal, impressive example.
Provenance: Private US. collection Ex. Jean-Eugene Lions, Geneva, Switzerland, active 1950’s - 1980’s.
