Description: |
Monkey mask of highly stylized abstract form, from the dama memorial ceremonies, of narrow elongated form with the concave facial plane, the square chin projecting forward beneath a narrow triangular nose flanked by large rectangular eye openings inset beneath a domed forehead, the rim pierced through for attachment. Dark brown heavily encrusted patina. Weathered hole in top of forehead, age cracks, weathered along rim. Custom base.
Mask originally sold in Sotheby’s N.Y. in 1992 for $17,600. |
