This slender figure with grooved coiffure, large concave ears, ovate face with meditative expression, long ringed neck, hanging breasts, long slender limbs, and relief loincloth embodying youthful physical attributes that are highly esteemed by the Baule. Red-brown crusty patina with accumulation of encrusted deposits between arms and torso, some blackened deposits on face and back. Feet and lower section of legs lost, age crack along front. Custom base. The encrusted surface may be a product of numerous offerings of sacrificial substances made to her. These offerings are part of rituals aimed at maintaining harmony between the human and spirit worlds, ensuring that the spirits are acknowledged and their influence is managed constructively. The encrusted layers add to the figure's sacred aura, marking it as a significant cultural and spiritual artifact within Baule society.
