Description: Bateba ti puo or 'Buthib' a wood protective figure for the power spirit Kòpèmà ('to help the husband'). Unusually carved female figure with a bowl atop head, one arm extended, indicating a protective stance, and an elongated face with slit eyes and mouth. Encrusted dark brown patina with layered deposits. Hairline age cracks. Custom base. cf. Daniela Bognolo, "Lobi", Milan: 5 Continents, 2007:17.
