Period: Pre-classic Period, ca. 1200 - 500 B.C.
Size: 7-1/2”H.

Description: Carved limestone mask depicting a shaman or important personage. Depicted with naturalistic facial features, carved openwork pupils and drilled nostrils. Biconical drilled attachment hole in the top center upper rim. Overall surface erosion, most likely caused by water immersion. Overall scattered iron-brown surface deposits. Repaired from three large and one small original pieces, with restoration over the front break lines, the interior break lines left visible. A 2” v-shape missing shard restored on the right edge of his chin, and an additional 2” area of restoration on the left lower edge. Custom display base.
