| Description: |
“Ukhamba” Beer vessel, burnished and blackened vessel of handsome bulging form, adorned with opposing zigzag motifs composed of nodes similar to scarification. Exc. cond.
This beer pot was made for sorghum beer called utshwala from South Africa. For the Zulu, pottery is a woman’s art form passed down from mother to daughter. Archaeological evidence shows that the ancestors of the Zulu started making pottery around 1000 years ago.
