Description: |
Exceptional pottery figural group depicting a central seated chief surrounded by three female attendants. Chief holds a large cigar-like implement to his mouth, two females seated in the front hold their hands on his shoulders, one holding a food bowl. The third female is guarding his back. Wearing beaded head and arm bands. Cream slip ground, some remaining geometric decoration on the females breasts and painted highlights. Scattered mineral deposits on the surface. Intact, exc. cond. A very rare an important example. |
