The Columbian mammoth (Mammuthus columbi) molar crown fragment is from an extinct species of mammoth that inhabited the Americas as far north as the Northern United States and as far south as Costa Rica during the Pleistocene epoch. There is about 1/2 of the crown part and shows exc. definition of the grinding surface. Most of root is gone. With three molar crown fragments from (Mammut americanum), the American mastodon which disappeared from North America as part of a mass extinction of most of the Pleistocene megafauna, widely believed to have been caused by a combination of climate changes at the end of the Pleistocene and overexploitation by Paleo-Indians. -Wikipedia- Each fragment shows three cusps and almost no root. |
