Description: Large red and tan pottery male seated figure with wide round arms, holding a drum between his legs. Semiabstract facial features, round perforated eyes and mouth. Depicted with antennae horns and wearing perforated disc ear ornaments. Black resist geometric facial decoration. Scattered mineral deposits on the surface. Head and horns reattached, arms repaired and reattached, and a very minor chip on left eye, otherwise intact, exc. cond. A nice example.
Provenance: Private NJ. collection. Ex. Estate of Marion Lynton acquired from William Kaplan/Arte Primitivo Inc., NYC., June 26th, 1975. Exhibited: Cologne, Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum, Out of the Depths, Tomb Figures From West Mexico, July 4th, 1986 - January 11, 1987.
