Description: Reddish-orange slip pottery seated female with geometric designs on shoulders and striated long coiffure holds a small child to her chest; painted overall in reddish orange. Spouts, handle and the upper portion of the child are restored, legs and buttocks reattached and partially resurfaced. This type of vessel with two spouts and a bridge handle is known as an alcarraza. It developed in the early Ilama phase and became the hallmark vessel of Calima in the subsequent Yotoco phase. The alcarraza was a kind of standard vehicle for modeling diverse human and animal forms from daily life, as well as house models. The theme of the mother holding a child is not common.
