Description: |
High karat yellow gold with silver content, having a long, slender tapered shaft, hollow on the base and capped at the terminal. The thumb grip is an inset abstract zoomorphic charm , probably a stylized bird, of turquoise quality chrysocolla. The dart nock is composed of a separate pale blue-green stone figure, probably a compacted clay, holding his hand over his mouth and standing upon a mosaic floor of deep turquoise tessarae. This embedded into a squared integral base of gold, connected to the main shaft. Obviously, this was for ceremonial use only, for a royal dignitary. Figure reattached at the legs, otherwise intact, exc. cond. Custom bronze base. A very rare and beautiful example. |
Provenance: |
Private west coast collection. Ex. Ian Arundel collection, Santa Monica, CA., acquired 1950’s - 1960’s by decent to Colin Arundel. |
